Stok Kangri Expedition

This spectacular mountain standing out on the southern skyline of Leh is one of the most sought after peaks for enthusiastic climbers. Numerous successful attempts on this 6121m / 20,076ft high peak have made this a popular destination for both experienced trekkers and amateur mountaineers. Himalayan Kingdom has organized a number of expeditions to this peak and offer the visitor an opportunity to conquer this famous peak.

Day 01: Arrive Delhi On arrival at the International Airport at Delhi we welcome you and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Delhi - Leh Take the early morning flight to Leh (3500m) where you are escorted to your hotel. Afternoon at leisure. Fly to Leh (3500m).
Day 03: Leh A day of exploring the monasteries of Shey the ancient summer palace of the Ladakh Kings; Thikse with its startling resemblance to the Potala palace in Lhasa Tibet and the renowned Hemis monastery famous for its exquisite thankas and gilded images. Overnight at hotel.
Day 04: Leh - Chilling (3850 m) A 3 hours drive to Chilling (3850 m). We drive to the small village of Nimu on the Srinagar - Leh Highway high above the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus rivers. Following the left bank of the Zanskar River through a gorge we reach Chilling known fort its intricate gold jewelry and expert craftsmen. Camp.
Day 05: Chilling - Skiu (3500 m) 5 hours Crossing the Zanskar River by way of a and cable bridge we join up with our trekking team. Camp.
Day 06: Skiu - Markha (3850 m) 7 hours 4We follow the trail that joins the Markha River for the next few days. An easy trekking day but with a number of river crossings.On arrival at Markha we visit the monastery and fort.
Day 07: Markha - Hankar (4000 m) 4 hours Quite a few monasteries are spread along our route today. After the Umlung monastery, the valley narrows down and we halt at the campsite at the base of Kang Yaste (6400 m).
Day 08: Hankar - Nimaling (4650 m) 4 hours Trek towards the direction of Zalung Karpo and Rupshu region. Crossing the vast Thagshungtse pasture land we begin a gradual ascent into the beautiful high valleys of Ladakh. Camp.
Day 09: Nimaling - Kongmaru La (5150 m) - Chogdo (4000 m) 7 hours Climbing to the summer pastures of Nimaling, used by the shepherds of Hankar and Markha, we follow a hedge right to the top of the pass. The Kongmaru La pass commands a grand view of the Kang Yatze north face (6400 m), the Ladakh ranges and the Indus valley. Camp at the base.
Day 10: Chogdo - Gyuncho La (4600 m) - Camp at 4350 m after a 6-7 hours walk Now we get on to a new and rarely traveled route through the valleys to the east of our objective then turning towards the west into a tributary valley which we reach after a long and gradual ascent to the Gyuncho La. We descend to set up camp at the base.
Day 11: Camp at 4350 m - Shang La (4800 m) - Matho Phu (4350 m) 6 hours Crossing numerous spurs and minor passes with occasional views northwards towards the Indus Valley and the peaks beyond we climb up to the Shang La and then descend to the Tokpo River. The it's a descent to our campsite.
Day 12: Matho Phu - Mato La (4820 m) - Stok Kangri Base Camp (4700 m) 5 hours At the pass, colorful prayer flags flutter in the wind, with the Zanskar ranges in the background. While descending steadily along side the Jingchan River tp our base camp, we get excellent views towards the Stock summit and the Stock Kangri peak. (6121m).
Day 13: Acclimatization day at Base Camp.
Day 14: Summit day (Approximately 8-9 hours to base-camp). Our route initially crosses scree and boulder slopes, and then leads to easy angled snow slopes, which require the use of ice axe and crampons. The route is not difficult but at this altitude, it can be quite strenuous. From the summit of Stok Kangri (6116m), we get to see amazing views as far as the Karakoram, and Pamir ranges and Tibet. The weather permitting we rest awhile and before descending to base-camp.
Day 15: Stok Kangri Base Camp - Leh A five hour walk to Stok. That goes downhill and through wild gorge scenery brings us to Stok village. We visit Stok Palace and museum and later take jeeps for an hour's drive across the Indus valley to our guesthouse in Leh.
Day 16: Leh - Delhi Catch the early morning flight to Delhi. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 17: Day at leisure in Delhi. Take time to visit the ancient parts of Old Delhi once a thriving business centre in the 18th and 19th centuries. Overnight in hotel.
Day 18: Transfer to the international airport in time for your flight back home.
